Richmond, VA _  The State Board of Elections has decided to allow expired photo IDs as long as the expiration has occurred within the year.

The vote was 2-to-1 to reverse a decision in June that would have allowed expired forms of identification allowed under Virginia's new voter ID law.

The board reconsidered the policy after supporters of the new law protested, and considered excluding expired IDs altogether until Attorney General Mark Herring found that wording in the policy was too broad and could lead to uneven application around the state.  That, he said, could be unconstitutional.
